CESAR CHAMPIONS LEAD THE FIGHT AGAINST MACHINERY THEFTCESAR CHAMPIONS LEAD THE FIGHT AGAINST MACHINERY THEFT

The Construction Equipment Association (CEA) launched the CESAR Champion initiative to encourage law enforcement officers to actively engage with the CESAR Scheme. The initiative is designed to reward officers who use the system to identify stolen construction and agricultural machinery, helping to combat equipment theft. By recognising officers who carry out checks on CESAR-marked machines, the initiative promotes greater awareness and utilisation of the scheme, strengthening efforts to deter and prevent machinery crime.

The latest recipients of the CESAR Champion Award include PC Ben Moule from the Thames Valley Police Rural Crime Taskforce. PC Moule was awarded a CESAR Champion badge for the successful recovery of a stolen ATV last month.

Reflecting on the achievement, PC Moule said:

“We found two ATVs that we suspected were stolen. I was able to identify the first in minutes with Datatag Rapid as it was fitted with the CESAR forensic marking system. The second machine, without CESAR marking, took us days to identify. To be awarded this CESAR Champion badge is the icing on the cake and a great way to round out 2024.”

PC James Barry, a Commercial Vehicle and Abnormal Loads Enforcement Officer for West Midlands Police, was also recognised with a CESAR Champion Award. The award was presented by Detective Sergeant Chris P. from the National Construction & Agricultural Theft Team (NCATT). PC Barry successfully identified a stolen excavator using the CESAR Registration Scheme. By utilising the new Datatag Rapid Police App, he was able to search the CESAR database, confirm the identity of the excavator, and establish that it had been stolen.

These awards highlight the vital role of the CESAR Scheme and Datatag ID Ltd Rapid Police App in supporting law enforcement efforts to recover stolen machinery and combat crime in the construction and agricultural sectors.
